Dear GMB member,
GMB have started the petition “STOP BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL CUTTING VITAL PUBLIC SERVICES ACROSS THE CITY” and need your help to get it off the ground.
Will you take 30 seconds to sign it right now? Here’s the link:
Here’s why it’s important:
Residents of Birmingham are being discriminated by the government in having vital funding reduced reduced and removed which provides public services across the city. Birmingham City Council announced that due to the drastic reductions in government funding, services which the people of Birmingham rely on will have to be stopped or cut to the barest minimum.
Birmingham is the 2nd largest city in the United Kingdom and has some of the most deprived communities in the country. The removal of vital services will see these communities forgotten and left to fend for themselves.
Recently the City Council has been under attack from the government over its handling of Children’s services, governance of the city and the Trojan Horse government to tackle these issues head on if it is to survive – not have more funding removed.
The department responsible for funding arrangements to local authorities the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) have stated they will not review the funding arrangements for Birmingham or proportion the funding more fairly therefore leaving Birmingham residents on the scrap heap.
